What’s a Used Vehicle Inspection?
If you’ve recently purchased a new used vehicle, let one of our expert mechanics take a look at it to make sure you got a good deal. They’ll inspect the overall condition and appearance of the car, as well as many other components including:
Bring One of Our Mechanics Along With You To Inspect Before You Buy
You can have one of our mechanics come with you to inspect a used-car before you even buy it. That way, you can be certain you’re getting a good deal. However, if you need to perform your own used vehicle inspection, there are five main categories to keep in mind:
Inspecting the exterior of the car includes taking a close look at the body, lights, mirrors, and doors. You should look at the paint and body to find any scratches or dents. You need to test that the lights are in working order as well. Mirrors should adjust properly and doors should all open, close, and lock correctly.
Inspecting the interior includes taking a close look at the radio, lights, air conditioning, dome lights, sunroof, windows, seats, carpet, and center console and dashboard. Making certain all electrical components work is a big part of the interior inspection. You should also check the seats and carpeting for stains or snags as well.
A full tire inspection includes verifying the tire’s age, life, and evenness. All tires have a Department of Transportation (DOT) number on the side wall. This number tells you the month and year your tires were made. You can compare that to how worn the tires are to determine their overall condition.
Engine and transmission
To inspect the engine and transmission, you need to take a close look under the hood. You should visually inspect the engine, check the engine fluids, check the engine belts, and take the chance to turn the car on.
Steering and suspension
In order to check the overall condition of steering and suspension, you need to actually drive the car, both on city streets and on the freeway. Try to get a good feel for the car in terms of comfort and safety. Test drives are a very important part of the used vehicle inspection process.
When you keep your car in top running condition, you will save time and money in the long run. A well-maintained vehicle provides safe travel for you and your family, giving you security and peace of mind.
